French chef and restaurant supply veteran Dominique Besson and wife, Domenica Besson, also a food service professional, launched Star Knife Sharpening in 2006 to provide full-service, onsite culinary sharpening to fine dining restaurant chefs. Our reputable mobile sharpening fleet and mobile store reaches restaurant and hospitality clients throughout San Antonio, Austin, and the Hill Country.
Star Chef Store adds brick-and-mortar convenience, for professionals and home chefs alike, in the San Antonio area who need sharpening, repair or supplies. Home chefs now also have a place to bring their knives for the same level of care and attention as restaurants.

Star Chef Store uses custom manufactured sharpening equipment, engineered to sharpen and maintain the geometry and integrity of each individual knife. Different types of knives require different sharpening techniques, and require different adjustments to suit the user. Our attention to such details enables us to provide a better experience in the kitchen.

Star Knife Sharpening is a full service, on-site culinary knife sharpening and repair service for all commercial kitchens. We have been providing top of the line personal service to the culinary industry for 18 years. Our trucks travel to each restaurant location so that the staff and work flow is never disrupted. Each truck is equipped with the patented sharpening equipment and also houses a complete cutlery store. We continue to serve the San Antonio and Austin Metro area, as well as the Hill Country.
The owner and founder, Dominique Besson, is a formally trained chef from Paris, France. After completing culinary college in France, Mr. Besson worked and opened several restaurants in Paris, and subsequently came to the US in 1987 to continue as a chef and live his dream of becoming an American in every way.
In 1994, Mr. Besson delved into the restaurant equipment industry as the National Sales Manager for Matfer Bourgeat, based in Paris since the 1800’s. He assisted in developing their presence in the US; it was after this that his love for the industry led him to open his own company which is now Star Knife Sharpening.
Chef Dominique Besson, a native of Angers, France, began working in professional kitchens at age 16. By 21, he was opening and overseeing restaurants in Paris. Trained at L’Ecole Hôtelière Curnonski in Saumur, Dominique later broadened his culinary footprint to learn the restaurant equipment industry, serving as national sales manager for Paris-based fine restaurant supplier, Matfer Bourgeat. His wife, Domenica Besson, is also very experienced in fields such as restaurant equipment sales and manufacturing, as well as restaurant ownership and cooking. Star Knife Sharpening opened in 2006, and subsequently Star Chef Store in 2020. Together, the couple enjoys coaching professional and home cooks about knife skills, the importance of maintenance and sharpening, and experiencing joy in the kitchen.
