Two Divisions. One Passion for Precision.

Two Divisions. One Standard of Excellence.

Our Story Begins in the Kitchen

When the World Shifted, So Did We

In 2020, when the restaurant industry faced unprecedented challenges, we recognized an opportunity to reach beyond our commercial kitchen services and bring that same level of expertise to home cooks. As people rediscovered the joy of cooking from their own kitchens, we wanted to make professional sharpening and premium cutlery accessible to everyone.

That vision became Star Chef Store — our flagship retail location in the beautiful Alon Towne Center of San Antonio. Here, customers can explore premium knives from around the world and take advantage of in-store sharpening, all performed by the same professionals trusted by top chefs.

Whether you’re sharpening your first knife or maintaining a professional collection, Star Chef Store delivers the same chef-level precision, care, and craftsmanship that have defined our commercial services for over two decades.

The System Behind the Edge

Our sharpening process is built around a patented system created by an engineer who grew up in the food industry. Each sharpener undergoes an extensive apprenticeship and certification program, ensuring they understand the geometry and precision required for every blade — from chef’s knives and scissors to hunting knives and gardening shears.

This level of training guarantees that every knife we handle is sharpened with both respect and technical excellence — because a culinary knife is never “just a knife.”

Meet the Founder:

Chef Dominique Besson

At the heart of Star Knife Sharpening and Star Chef Store is Chef Dominique Besson, a classically trained chef from Paris, France. After graduating from culinary college and opening several restaurants in Paris, Dominique moved to the United States in 1987 to pursue his dream of sharing his passion for food and craftsmanship.

Following years in professional kitchens, he transitioned into the restaurant equipment industry, eventually serving as the National Sales Manager for a historic French culinary manufacturer. His deep understanding of both the artistry and science of cooking led him to launch his own company — combining his chef’s eye with an engineer’s precision.

Dominique’s visits to restaurant kitchens are legendary. Chefs greet him not just as a service provider, but as a fellow craftsman — someone who can fix a chipped blade, troubleshoot a sauce, or offer advice on technique. His presence brings warmth, laughter, and expertise to every kitchen he visits.
